After coming to UK , this was my first trip outside UK. Four of us planned the trip, I, who came to work in UBS from a consulting company called Polaris, Jayesh from Infosys, Gopi and Vinay from Wipro. First step was obtaining a Schengen. Those days embassies used to deal with the Visa applications directly and typically you would get back passport end of the day or next day. Nevertheless , my visa was approved only for 7 days just enough to cover the itinerary. We took the overnight bus from London. This was cheapest but fairly painful. English channel was crossed using P& O ferry.
Places covered in Paris:-
Moulin Rouge : Famous for its world-renowned cabaret in Paris
Eiffel Tower : Went to Eiffel tower during the day as well as in the evening. Eiffel tower has 1665 steps to the top. I decided to take the stairs , out of total number of stairs only 674 are climbable which is upto the second floor.
Paris Museum: Louvre was formerly a royal palace . The collections of the Louvre originated in the acquisitions of paintings and other artworks by the monarchs of the House of France. At the Palace of Fontainebleau, Francis collected art that would later be part of the Louvre’s art collections, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
Marbel Arch & La Defence: The big Arch de La Défense, which in French translates to “La Grande Arche de La Défense”, is both an homage to the tradition and an avantgarde work. Inaugurated in 1989 on the occasion of the bicentenary of the French Revolution, the arch is a modern monument located in the financial neighborhood called La Défense, in the western part of Paris, realized in glass and white Carrara marble, after an international contest which took place in 1982, and it’s considered one of the most modern and iconic buildings in Paris, after the famous Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
Notre-Dame : The cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.
River Seine Cruise: A Seine River cruise not only provides scenic views but also offers valuable historical and cultural insights.
Arc de Triomphe: The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
