It was a full day trip from Salzburg . We took an early morning bus no 150 toย Bad Ischl and then train fromย Bad Ischl to Hallstatt railway station. Finally ferry across the lake to Hallstatt village. The village is very pretty , surrounded by mountains and worth of at least a night’s stay. From ferry terminal its about 15 min walk to cable car to go up the mountains.

This Saltmine is world’s oldest salt mine.ย The mine has been worked for over 7,000 years. There is a 90 min guided tour which covers 1 KM. There was an electric train which was used at the end to take us from tunnel to outside. The tour was exciting , two long wooden slides took us down

There was “Bronze age cinema” 400 M below ground. These was also subterranean salt lake and also wooden staircase.

Originally salt was extracted in its solid crystal form. Latter water was flowed inside to absorb salt and then saline water was pumped out.

After the tour was concluded I decided to walk down to the village. It was very scenic walk all the way down to village.
